Allow me to first say I’m preaching to the choir with this one and I am pretty sure there are some choir members out there that can join me. I am not an ungrateful person as I literally don’t have the place to be; however, it is so easy to focus on what you don’t have rather than being grateful for what you do have.

In this present day and time the attention is so on what we want and not what we need or perhaps already have. There are so many that long for the things that some of us have. I can remember a time were the only thing my mom and I owned were clothes. No home, no vehicles, no jobs, no money; didn’t know where our next meal was coming from and at times didn’t know where we were going to lay our heads, but God! When I look around now, I am humbly grateful because guess what, we now have more than we’ve ever had in our entire lives, yet and still God desires to bless us with so much more, but first we have to start being thankful and grateful for what we do have because not everyone has that privilege.

So as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, take the time to reflect back on when you were without something, when you didn’t have what you now have if you can, and just start thanking God for what you do have, it may not be everything you want, but I am certain that it’s more than what you’ve had and in the midst of you being thankful, “He will give you the desires of your heart” as long as they are in alignment with what He has for you, which of course is always better than what we desire for ourselves. The song says “be grateful, because there’s someone else that’s worst off than you, be grateful, because there is someone else that would love to be in your shoes” (by the late Walter Hawkins).

I Thessalonians 5:18 tells us “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you!” We all have something to be thankful for! Check out the song “Thank you” by Richard Smallwood, you will truly be blessed!
