Hidden along a quiet country road in Southaven, MS is a treasure that, once discovered, will become your favorite venue for off-site business meetings, retreats, and office parties.
Spitfire Acres, a five+ acre retreat and botanical garden event center located in the heart of Southaven, Mississippi, is fast becoming the venue of choice for Memphis and surrounding area businesses hosting off-site meetings, trainings, and retreats. This gorgeous facility is comprised of approximately 10,000 square feet of interior and exterior entertainment areas. Very secluded and quiet, Spitfire Acres is located directly north of and adjacent to Sacred Heart School on Tchulahoma at Church Road.
The building was completely refurbished in 2011 by David McCammon, General Contractor, and his team of remodeling specialists. The following years were marked by the restoration of a Civil War era hand hewn log structure, construction of a “wedding arbor” overlooking the lake, and extensive outdoor deck and bar area. The refurbishing of Spitfire Acres also included extensive planting and landscaping improvements, and collaboration with the Chickasaw Trails Association on placing historic markers along the old Chickasaw roadbed which is still in existence near the entrance to the property.
Inside Spitfire Acres. The contemporary and spacious interior is fully furnished and accessorized with original artworks. The facility offers a meeting room with a 70″ flat screen TV/monitor, a flexible-room with soaring fireplace for dining and conversation, etc. A prep kitchen provides cold food storage and warming for catering needs. A main-floor sitting room with a second fireplace and an additional flat screen TV monitor is the largest of 3 break-out rooms for small group discussions. Two additional small group discussion rooms and a a restroom are located upstairs. (Because Spitfire Acres is also the perfect choice for weddings, the main-floor sitting room/bath also functions as a bridal suite with dressing area, restroom and double vanity with two makeup stations. Upstairs, the two office sitting rooms with restroom facilities make the perfect groom’s quarters during wedding events.)
Outside. Spitfire Acres is a beautiful outdoor sanctuary with plenty of deck and patio space. There is a wrought iron railing that adds to the beauty and provides safety as you look out over the 2 acre stocked pond that wraps around two sides of the building. You’ll also find mature trees protruding through the deck, a gunite-lagoon-style swimming pool with a weeping wall, and a separate waterfall gracing the pond. For even more enjoyable entertaining, Spitfire Acres has a lovely gazebo style outdoor bar.
In the winter months, warm up in one of the striking red chairs beside the cozy gas fire pit in the front of the building. If employees and business attendees need a break to stretch and get refreshed, they can stroll across the front lawn and visit the wishing well and log cabin or wander around the levee. Taking a few minutes to explore the nature trails and wildlife will prepare everyone for afternoon meetings or training classes.
Adding to the mystique of Spitfire Acres is the fact that it’s associated with the 1996 Gregory Productions movie, The Spitfire Grill , starring Ellen Burstyn, and produced by Southaven resident, Roger Courts. Proceeds from the award-winning movie funded construction of Sacred Heart School whose cafeteria is named The Spitfire Grill. Not coincidentally, closest neighbors to the property are Roger Courts himself and his business partner, Mark Ratay, whose travel agency overlooks the school campus. Post-acquisition in early 2011 Mark asked what the property was going to be named. After several months of thought, Mark and Roger’s permission was sought to call it “Spitfire Acres”. Roger has been quite generous sharing movie memorabilia including: a signed movie poster, framed musical score from the movie autographed by the Oscar winning composer, James Horner (Titanic, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind), and a movie prop apron for the kitchen.
Spitfire Acres is available for evening and daytime corporate meetings, conferences, and retreats. Wi-fi, Internet service, telephone, cable TV are all available on site. Other amenities include firewood for the fireplaces, gas for the fire pit, ice service, linens and a variety of tables, chairs and accessories. Maximum capacity is 150 people. Tours are available by contacting our office via email or by phone at 662-536-3905.
Overnight accommodations and complimentary shuttle service to and from Spitfire Acres are available. Participating hotels are conveniently located near Interstate 55 and Goodman Rd.
